Despite Summer only appearing as the children returned to school, Ickenham gardeners were not deterred as they attended the Autumn Show on Saturday 2nd September – filling the newly re-vamped Village Hall with fabulous displays of flowers, fruit, vegetables, and floral art as well as photographic, domestic, and creative junior entries.

We were delighted to welcome some new entrants, many of whom won prizes. Amongst these were some of our local allotmenteers who had some fantastic fruit and vegetables to show. We hope they will encourage some of their fellow growers to join us next time too.

Results of our annual Sunflower competition were also on show. This year’s winner measured an impressive 3.2metres and was grown by the D’Mello family.

Glebe School Gardeners joined us to show us how busy they had been. What an amazing Sunflower they had grown. It certainly lived up to it’s name, Titan!

As always, there was a lovely atmosphere in the hall as visitors admired the exhibits and enjoyed the ever-popular tea and homemade cakes.

Following the formal judging, prizes were presented by Hollie and Anita from Ickenham Library who joined us for the afternoon and told us about the exciting community garden they are developing at the rear of the library – definitely something to go and see if you haven’t already.
