Ickenham is incredibly lucky to boast two thriving Allotment sites, one at Ickenham Green and the other at Glebe. They really are little oases and the abundance of fruit, flowers, and vegetables in various stages of growth is a sight to behold.
Each year, Ickenham & Swakeleys Horticultural Society hold a competition and award prizes to the top 3 allotments from the two sites. Points are awarded using a specified criteria which covers everything from the produce grown, to number of varieties, to encouraging wildlife and re using and recycling as much as possible.
The judges this year were amazed at the quality and standard of all of the plots – it was clear see that Ickenham folk had been putting Lockdown to very good use and enjoying the extra time they had to nurture their allotments. There was a real sense of community amongst the allotment holders too and sharing this outside space and pursuit together has undoubtedly been a “God send” to them during this challenging time.
Our congratulations this year go to 1st Prize Juli Harris-Powell Ickenham Green, 2nd Prize Paul and Pam Williams also Ickenham Green, and 3rd prize to Kish & Manju Patel, Glebe site, who all win Trading Hut vouchers.
